There are a few moments in your life when you understand that there's an horizon you can't see past until you've made a certain decision. I've had to make a few of these in my life. I've made decisions to walk away from unhealthy relationships. I've made a decision to stick with an amazing woman who pushes me like no one else, and to ask her to marry me. The biggest decision I've made to date was to agree to start a family. All of these decisions, in hindsight, were correct.
If you're reading this now, it means I've made another one of those decisions. Stick with me for a few more minutes, and I'll tell you all about it.
I've been with Internet Solutions for thirteen and a half years. I've said that number out loud a lot of times, but I've never written it down like I just did. That's a really long time. I think I still had braces on my teeth when I joined.
I started out in their support team, and steadily moved through the organisation. Whilst there, I've enjoyed approximately eight roles, the last four being ones of leadership and management. During my latest role, I've been witness to and helped along amazing changes that I know will ensure IS' continued success. The plans and strategies that the leadership of IS have in place are breathtaking.
I won't be a direct part of those plans. Today, I made the decision, together with a small number of trusted friends to start something new. Today, I tendered my resignation and started the countdown timer on my next horizon. Today, I put myself and my future partners on the road to a new start and new beginnings.
Starting on May 1 2015, Zero-One will officially be open for business. My team and I will be creating a software development company molded out of the best of what's possible through human endeavour. We are creating a company that values grit, mastery, transparency, and above all, shipping. We will achieve this by using the right mixture of tried-and-tested and cutting-edge technology to deliver amazing software and devops capabilities.
We are creating a company that values grit, mastery, transparency, and above all, shipping.
The decision to start Zero-One was not taken lightly. We've been quietely working nights and weekends for many, many month to push us closer to the goal of being able to start a company. But now we're here, the trigger's pulled and we're going to make it happen.
Wish us luck, get in touch, we'd love to work with you.
